This blog's gone through a few natural transitions over the last year and a half. I've gone from blogging about books, to writing craft, to flash fiction. Lately I've been feeling introspective and an itch to write more journal type posts. On the other hand, I always feel a bit strange talking about myself, which is why I've tended to stick to topical and (hopefully) helpful subject matter on the blog.
The point of this home on the web has always been to connect with other writers and readers, to engage in conversation, so I thought I'd throw the question out to you, my blog friends.
What would you like to see more of?
- Journaly posts on life and the thoughts that go through my head while writing
- Regular Beat The Writer's Blues posts, because we writers often need the encouragement
- Book reviews/recommendations/analysis
- Genre specific issues and discussions
- Writing craft and mechanics posts
- Flash Fiction! Or a return of the author's aerobics exercises
- More thoughts or details about my current writing projects
- Random inspiration or links to things that interest me
I do intend to continue with the genre glossary posts, as well as occasional book recipes when I have the time to cook and photograph.
P. S. Thanks to all of you who keep coming back to read this blog! I smile each and every time I see there's a new comment waiting. I also appreciate you guys who read, but don't comment. Just being read is something I appreciate.
Thoughts?
All of the above? :D (I'm not making your job easier, am I? haha)
I like all of your posts, Theresa! No matter what you decide to blog about, I'm pretty sure l'll always read it, heh.
Aww thanks Tiyana :) So far there seems to be a consensus for variety. Ahh well, I suppose it's carry on as normal then! LOL
Ditto. I vote for a mix. Whatever strikes your fancy. This blog is for/about YOU! We're just the honored guests. :)
Thank you too Kristan! I'm always amazed people are actually interested :)
Here's a proper cop out - a bit of everything. I like the range of content on your blog so I think you should stick with a bit of everything. Maybe not book reviews, that feels more like something you can already get elsewhere. It does seem to be awhile since you've posted much fiction though which I've been missing.
That's fair. I think I'll be in a better head space for fiction once this novel's done (hopefully in a few days). I'd like to do some more of that as well :)
Thirded.
Shoot you guys aren't making this easy LOL
Hey, what can I say? That's what keeps them coming back.
You mean it's got nothing to do with my live chicken sacrifices to the Google gods? Hmm! ;)
Lol! Oh, I've got to see this...
The Google gods are fickle. One day they want live chicken sacrifices. The next day it's Hungarian Homing Pigeons. You can never truly appease the Google gods.
Everyone above is correct, of course! I've always thought the best thoughts are the instinctive and personal. Write whatever is on your mind and you can't fail :)
Thanks for the encouragement Luke!
I would say do a week of each one, Theresa. This way you can have variety each week and keep up coming back!
Hmm! That is an idea. Thinking of getting back to 2-3 posts per week, and maybe rotating the topics.
Anything relating firmly to writing feels proper here. Book reviews, analysis of trends, your fears about publishing, work updates, where you've gotten work published, the glossary of Speculative Fiction - it all belongs. If there was one absent thing to add, I'd say stories from your life (preferably recent) about writing or the industry. I think you're good enough to get away with whatever you want to write, though.
I'll be adding more life stories for sure. I do still want to keep this a writing blog, so for the most part, yes, writing related posts I think.
I love everything you write. Don't change too much! I must admit I really REALLY find your genre posts interesting. I learn something new with every one.
Alright! Hehe yeah I'm learning a lot about genre as I post those. I really had no idea until I started the glossary project. Thanks RG!
The genre posts are definitely a high point, but I enjoy it all. The least engaging, to me, are the Author's Aerobics type of things, since I'm very unlikely to do any of them.
Oh, and I do like links to posts on blogs that you follow, since they are likely to be very interesting. After all, I found your blog because you commented on Kristan's (IIRC).
Oh, and more experimental writing, please. You'll have one reader, at least. :-)
I'll see what I can work in on the experimental side! I have a few ideas for playing with varying alternate narrative structures on a micro level (not just non-linear).
Wow, what a lot of comments!!! Sorry, I just wanted to share that random observation, lol :D
Journaly posts, yes.
I would DEFINITELY be up for random posts on random interesting things!!! Y'all know that I like randomness. Perhaps I should change my blog name to House of Random. … . … hmmm …
And lastly, I would definitely like to see the return of Author Aerobics. It's been too long. :'-( I fear it was my doing, since I think they stopped with the creation of Serial Central (which I didn't even participate in, ha ha!)…?
I like House of Happy! hehe, sure it might be random, but it's still pretty happy.
Ahh yeah, that is why I stopped. Though, I'm not sure I'd want to start the Aerobics again unless I have at least one or two people that want to join in. You interested?
Definitely interested! My life is crazy right now—but 1000 words once a week is not that hard to do!!!
OK I'll think about it :) I won't have time for the next week or so... but we'll see after!
