I'm off at the conference today! In the meantime, here's the next installment of the serial.
Two Sisters

Part 9 - Confrontations
Alice Young, August 27, 2010
I heard you were back in town. Why didn't you come to visit us sooner?" Susan asked. She leaned in forwards, and Alice could smell Susan's perfume. She always smelled like flowers. It brought back memories of better times.
"I thought maybe..."
"You are always welcome here Alice." Susan cut her off. Alice wondered what it would have been like to have a mother like her, someone who cared. Her own mother had abandoned her, and the closest she ever had was Jane. That kind of responsibility should never have fallen on a teenager's shoulders. Her sister never had a chance to be just a normal girl. As much as she had loved her sister, she hated her mother for it.
It was strange to see the tears in Mihail’s eyes. Anger? Guilt? Tenderness? She couldn’t tell, but her heart melted as she sat down at the table. It hurt to stare.
