Happiness is...

Peanut butter oatmeal cookies

I didn't burn anything this time! :D

It's so easy to get caught up in being busy, that we can forget the simple things. Inspired by Lua, here's a list of the the small things that make me happy.

  1. Sunshine. That's all it takes to make me smile. If the sun is out I always feel like it's going to be a good day, but even if it turns out to be rotten, it doesn't seem so bad if it's sunny.
  2. The smell of libraries: paper, book binding, coffee... writer's heaven.
  3. Blog comments.  Thank you!! xoxo :)
  4. The feel of pens on paper. Some pens glide effortlessly, other pens create a satisfying scratch against the page.
  5. Being so engrossed in a good book that I lose track of time.
  6. Getting an unexpected call/e-mail from a friend.
  7. Days where I have no plans to do anything - so rare!
  8. Hugs! Laugh inducing, bear-huggy, exuberant, joyful hugs.
  9. Finding the perfect name for a character in a story.
  10. Peanut butter cookies.

What makes you happy?

  • Pretty much all mammals shorter than knee height - lambs, wee dogs, kittens, pigs!

Blowing out zombies' brains (in computer games, possibly in reality too but I wouldn't know)

That 'moment' when a story suddenly comes together in a way you hadn't expected.

    • T.S. Bazelli says:

Oh yes, how could I forget the wee animals, and those story moments are pure gold. I wish they'd happen more often.

  • Kristan says:

Yes, the wee animals! That's a good one too.
Also, "progress," whatever that might mean on that day, in my writing.
    Chocolate (stereotypical, but true).
    Dance (watching or doing).

Great list Tessa, loved it! :)
Especially your # 8! Days like that are rare and wonderful!
And those cookies look sooooo delicious, no wonder they’re on the list ;)

  • That's a wonderful list. I, too, am a lover of small mammals.

I also enjoy the company of human-sized mammals.

    • J. P. Cabit says:

How about the company of animal-sized humans? lol, we all know at least one (horse-sized or chihuahua-sized)!!!

  • Also, chocolate chip cookies, ice cream, and other things of a chocolatey nature.

  • J. P. Cabit says:

    3, 6, 8, 9, and 10!!!! (#6 seems strangely familiar…)

#7 is kind of nice too, after a lot of things have been happening, but only every now and then, otherwise it's boooooring…

    11. Spontaneous plans. :-D :-D :-D

    • T.S. Bazelli says:

Ahh but #7 gives you the opportunity to make spontaneous plans! Jump in that car and drive... who knows where.

Yes #6 Shh....I think I stole that one from some guy's website. ;)

—And broadway dancing! Like "Who will buy" from Oliver!

I think these stains may be permanent.
